Dreams

Good morning from Caffe Nero in Station Square, Cambridge.

Thanks to everyone who has joined the two Facebook Groups.

41 of 60 chapters of ‘The Half-Life Girl’ are now topped and tailed with intrigue or drama, and my target of 75,000 words has been met.

"Your mission, should you choose to accept it”, is to come up with design ideas for a front cover for ‘The Half-Life Girl’.

Here’s a reminder of what the front cover of ‘Beyond The Shining Portals’ looks like.

The central feature is ‘the shining portal’. Ideally, I’d like to echo this shape in ‘The Half-Life Girl’.

Elektra has to find and fulfil her destiny by the age of 22 at the latest. She’s in a race against the clock.

So, the image that best fits this is a clock face.

The background could be black with stars or tiny space ships since the book is set in the time of the wars between Imperium, ruled by the FirstBorn, the other dynatoi worlds and the worlds of the Maiden Orders.

Elektra, herself, is 18, she has olive skin and dark eyes.

Dreams

In the past couple of months, I’ve had some very vivid dreams. I go to bed looking forward to them.

Now, here’s the weird thing. At least three of those dreams have been about the same place. Or rather, neighbouring districts in the same city.

It’s unlike any city I’ve visited. In the first dream, my wife and I have bought a huge house, and we are walking around it. It is gigantic. In particular, there is an enormous living area with a massive hearth for a fire, but it lacks a roof. I’m wondering how on earth we are going to find the money to renovate it.

In the next dream, I am in the city centre, standing at the entrance to the busiest shopping mall imaginable. From people’s clothing, I would say we are in the 18th century, however, some of the stalls are selling electronic goods.

I ask about my house, and someone takes my arm and propels me to the corner of the mall where the road leads down to it. It is clearly the same building.

In the third dream, I am in the same city centre, and I realise how ramshackle it is. It’s night. There are very tall buildings with no glass in the windows. The rooms are all lit, so it is bright, and you can see everyone going about their business. Someone in my family is in trouble and is asking me to help them keep the police away.

I have never had interconnected dreams before. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

It has crossed my mind that this is the world in which I should write another series of books.
